Acupuncture And Oriental Medicine

Acupuncture is part of a complete healthcare system created by Ancient Chinese culture thousands of years ago. The Chinese believe Qi (pronounced chee,) flows throughout the body in specific pathways called meridians or channels. This Qi, or life energy, can be accessed through specific points on the body. They believe that an imbalanced body, or blocked Qi is the cause of disease.

Acupuncturists work with patients to help rebalance and free the flow of Qi. Acupuncture promotes natural healing by stimulating the body's own healing mechanisms to fight disease and ease pain.

Oriental medicine includes several modalities including acupuncture, Chinese herbs, moxabustion (heat therapy with mugwort,) tuina (bodywork,) meditation, cupping (placed on by suctions) and diet/lifestyle advice.

Acupuncture uses fine, stainless steel needles to stimulate points on the surface of the body. The treatment is virtually pain free and the disposable needles are only used once. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, there are hundreds of acupuncture points with specific actions and indications on the body. They are connected by 12 primary meridians or pathways and 8 extraordinary meridians which all branch off into smaller channels similar to the branches of a tree.
